How to Patch Jeans

Patching Jeans is easy. You don't have to have any great sewing skills either.

My two little boys & somehow my husband all get holes in their jeans. These jeans got this hole in less than three days!  I wasn't thrilled. And they are even nice thick quality.
So instead of constantly buying more jeans, I patch them up.
It is fast... about five minutes and easy.

To patch jeans you need a scrap of Jean material large enough to cover the hole AND the "weak" area around the hole.

Also, thread to match the jeans you are stitching on. (my thread looks white in these pictures, but it is a matching denim color)

Cut the appropriate size of jean scrap & place it underneath the hole, on the inside of the jeans.

Pin to secure.
(If jeans are stretchy, pin extra well.)

Using sewing machine. Sew forward and backwards (reverse) over and over until all areas of the hole are covered.

Your stitching should cover more than just the hole.  Stitch past it on all sides, because the area around the hole is weak and prone to ripping.

As you can see the stitching is far from perfect, but it really doesn't matter.
When I looked at my name brand jeans that come with "patched holes" their stitching is also imperfect.

*These jeans were little boy super skinny jeans,
so fitting it into the sewing machine was a HUGE struggle.
I had to scrunch it really tight, so you can see a better example of proper stitching on the bottom jeans pictured.  I had a little more room to work with those than the first.

So in the future try patching your jeans.  It saves money...and the lifespan of the jeans.
With little boys, it has saved me so much.  And the patches last as I pass the jeans down.

DIY Kids Chore Books with Printable

Kids and Chores...an ongoing search for the perfect solution.
This Chore Book has been my favorite. We still use a reward chart as they are completed, but using this book helps them be independent.
It is simple, open the book and follow the pages until they are done.
At bedtime, turn the book over and follow the pages.
Now I am not the one saying, "did you brush your teeth? did you...?"

*UPDATE 6/24*
here is a picture showing how my 3 year old:
1. picked up his room
2. made his bed and
3. put his pajamas under his pillow
All without my help or nagging. So for us this is working.

For our house this has worked amazingly well.  In the morning all I have to say is, "Time to do your jobs" and they know to get the job book.  We race to see who can finish first.  And at night, they start them 30 min. before bedtime.  The faster they finish the more time they get to read before bed.

The pictures are also great because they help even little ones visually see what the job looks like in our house.
And I can easily slip in and out new picture as their jobs change, or the order needs to be switched up, etc.
One simple thing that has made our house run SO much smoother.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

So there are always left overs and initially I love making the traditional Turkey Sandwich with cream cheese, cranberry sauce, and gravy on homemade rolls.  But after that, left overs get a little old.  So here are a few of my favorite recipes that use Thanksgiving Left Overs.

Here are tons of recipes from Rachel Ray.
Recipes found: here
And another by Rachel Ray found: here
Turkey, Cheese, and Pasta Wheels

I like that their is more than just Turkey Casserole, where you still feel like it's the same thing.  There's Turkey and Rice recipes, Soups, Enchiladas, etc.

And when I just need something on the fresh side I like,
Turkey Salad with Cranberries found: here

Chunky Turkey Salad with Cranberries and Walnuts

*I also freeze left overs and I like to make stock and freeze it in ice cube trays.  9 ice cubes equals 1 cup.

White Board Calendar

I am all about calendars, planners...anything to keep me organized. But if it is going to be out or seen, I want one that looks cute. And, I like it to be reusable. (Less cost and effort).

So, I took an old picture from a garage sale. Removed the picture, painted the plain oak frame black.
Used some Scrapbook paper for the background.
And there you have it...a Calendar, Grocery List, Reminders, Meal Planning, etc...all in one place.

For more information on how I use this calendar for Weekly and Monthly Meal planning click: here

Nursery Lamp

I'm in the process of redoing our nursery & it is just about done.
It used to be jungle themed and now...I went with a more neutral approach.
And one of the changes included the lamp.
It was a clearanced lamp from Kirkland Home ($5.00) but it originally was edged in a leopard print.

So with a quick surging & gathering of some scrap fabric, plus of few dots of Fabric Glue...It was fixed.
